![]() ![]() How old is your daughter, and how familiar is she with computers? Generally, I recommend Painter over Photoshop for anything that involves emulation of natural media, and Photoshop for almost everything else. Feel free to contact me, if you have more specific questions.įirst off, that is very impressive work. I always try to concentrate on doing my work with photoshop, but the ease of use always brings me back to this app. For 199$ you get a very nice piece of software. Its wacom support is a bit limited, but it supports pen pressure and dynamic brush size and stuff. It lacks the fancy stuff like simulated painting surfaces, even effect filters are not implemented, but it comes with customizable brushes and a fullscreen canvas. Its features are very limited but leaves the artist all the freedom he wants. Its very fast to learn (i guess 2 or 3 hours and you know all it can do) and it has an interface wich is simply second to none in ergonomic view. ![]() If you want something really fast and intuitive to paint or sketch, with no technical stuff or photo editing i can point you to Autodesk Sketchbook Pro. I personally dont like the interface, but thats a very subjective point and depends on the user. ![]() But when it comes to anything else but painting, drawing, sketching, its not so well suited. Its (besides maxon´s bodypaint) the only graphic app that supports the wacom art-pen to its full extend. Painter also has a better support for wacom features. painting with brush structure, simulated wet paint and so on. Painter, wich i have used also, is great when you want to copy natural painting styles, f.e. That plus two years of art classes, plus life drawing, last I heard he was a working character designer for Ubi.I can strongly recommend photoshop, because it suits all needs when it comes to sketching while giving you all the freedom to manipulate images in the most professional manner. Kid used that thing like a workbook and did every page. I also had him buy a copy of Stan Lee's "How To Draw Superheroes The Marvel Way". I'd like to say that I taught him how to draw, but all I did was show him how twisted people become when they take on a contract to teach character design for animation. I had one kid who could not draw anything more detailed than a stick man. Many moons ago, I taught a class in character design for animation. I've seen it happen in myself and others. You have to work it out frequently and often to see improvement. I could learn to sing the notes, but I choose not to, as I don't find singing at all enjoyable.Ībility, on the other hand, is like muscle. Most of us choose to mask it for whatever reason. It's well not to confuse talent with ability. There are even rarer examples of people "born" with talent, but they are born autistic as well. There are examples of savantism and precocious youth, but even those kids end up putting in the hours. Picasso's work ethic in particular was massively obsessive. Bach and Picasso, to use those examples, were both extremely hard workers. Even so, real watercolours and oils cause it to drag. You need a good gaming rig and lots of extra RAM to make it work well. Mind you, 12's features are important to me: pen tilt and above that 64-bit support. All 11 & 12 do is make it more stable and add a few new features. Painter X was a brilliant step forward for the series in terms of features, but Corel absolutely dropped the ball in terms of support and stability with that product. ![]()
